Statement by the Honourable Gary Lunn, Minister of State (sport), at the award ceremony of the Vancouver 2010 Paralympic Committee Canadian

OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(Marketwire-October 23, 2010)-2010 Paralympic Winter Games in Vancouver were a great success for Canada and for all our athletes who took part.

The Canadian Paralympic Committee (CPC) has honored athletes and coaches who have made these games a great moment in the history of sport in Canada by presenting his first ever awards to celebrate their achievements. Six awards were presented today.

The prizes were presented: Brian McKeever (award best athlete man); Robin McKeever (Guide, Brian McKeever); Lauren Woolstencroft (award best female athlete); Viviane Forest (best newcomer); Lindsay Debou (Guide, Viviane Forest);Sonja Gaudet, Darryl Neighbour, Jim Armstrong, Ina Forrest, Bruno Yizek (Wheelchair Curling Team-team prize); Kasper Wirz (Tim Frick Paralympic Coach Excellence Award);and David Greig (para-development Coach Award).

Canada's Paralympic athletes are a tremendous source of pride and inspiration for all Canadians. on behalf of Prime Minister Stephen Harper and the Government of Canada, I congratulate all the winners of the prize. I would also like to thank the CPC to inspire Canadians with disabilities to be involved in sport and making it possible for them to compete and win.
