Minister Toews and M.P. Joy Smith meeting with the community to discuss human smugglers prevention of abuse of the law on Canada's immigration system

WINNIPEG, MANITOBA--(Marketwire-October 23, 2010)-today, the Honourable Vic Toews, Minister of public safety and Joy Smith, Member of Parliament for Kildonan-St. Paul, met with community members to discuss human smugglers from prevention system act of Canada immigration, abusing the Government's commitment to punish traffickers who try to abuse Canada's immigration system.

"The legislation, our Government unveiled this week shows clearly that we will not tolerate abuse of our system of immigration-from traffickers or by those who are willing to play by the rules," said Minister Toews. "At the same time, this legislation will allow us to continue offering security more vulnerable in the world. "

Human smugglers from prevention system act of Canada immigration will ensure the abusing law enforcement have the tools they need to prosecute traffickers. the new measures proposed legislation include:

--Making it easier to prosecute traffickers;
--Impose custodial mandatory on convicted traffickers; and
--Holding of shipowners and operators to account for the use of their vessels in
human smuggling operations.

The law will also help to ensure the safety and security of Canadian Communities:

--Ensuring mandatory detention of illegal immigrants for up to one year
allow the determination of identity, inadmissibility and illegal
task.

Human smugglers from prevention system act of Canada abusing immigration also contains several measures to discourage individuals from using traffickers to come into Canada.Includes the following measures of deterrence that specifically apply to immigrants who arrive in Canada to human smuggling operation:

--Seeks to ensure that the illegal immigrants who have obtained refugee status may be
cadences within five years to determine if they still need
protection or can be returned to their country of origin;

--Ensure that the health benefits, they receive immigrants are not
more generous than those received from the public from Canada
Government;

--Ensuring that displaced people or refugees asylum seekers who were immigrants
are unable to return to Canada if they return to the country by
who sought refuge, or if they demonstrate in other ways that they
are not legitimately need protection of Canada; and

--Preventing illegal sponsorship family for five
years.

"Human smuggling, illegal immigration and other abuses of the system of immigration of Canada are not and will not be tolerated," said M.P. Joy Smith. "The lead partner of human smuggling operations is ruthless profiteers that cause poverty and threatens the lives of those who feel a little more than human load bearing on our shores. "

Furthermore, Prime Minister Stephen Harper has appointed a Special Adviser on human trafficking and illegal migration, Mr. Ward P.D. Elcock, as part of Government efforts to strengthen Canada's ability to detect human smuggling operations overseas and prevent them from reaching Canada. Special Adviser will advance Canada's engagement with Governments in countries of origin and transit, partner States and regional fora and/or international addressing human smuggling.
